Always a Good Idea
Posted on November 07 2019
Paris is always on our minds. Images of the April 15th fire at Notre Dame stung our senses. Memories of Paris cascade through the years. We vow to make new ones, as the City of Light rebuilds its heart. Because, as Audrey Hepburn noted, “Paris is always a good idea.” Let’s go on record with our own Jane’s Vanity variations, inspired by that sweet thought.
Flower Power
Posted on November 05 2019

Jane’s Vanity offers a garden of wonders with new loungewear in amazing botanical prints. Botanical illustration has been around a long time. It can be traced back to the Greeks in the first century CE. By the 18th century, advances in printing allowed beautiful floral images to appear on fabric as well as on paper. Artists continue to love the precise look of natural history illustration, even as they push it in a bolder direction.

Get Shirty
Posted on August 17 2019
A pretty shirt or blouse is an instant solution for summer dressing. Great for travel too. See it transform your basics in a single gesture. Try a festive jersey knit or a seductive splash of patterned silk. Jane’s Vanity has scouted a brilliant assortment of peripatetic shirts for your approval. Pack light, pack right, with JV’s globe-trotting shirts and blouses.

When planning your transitional-weather wardrobe, don’t forget to include a light and billowy coverup from Jane’s Vanity. Both practical and luxurious, a cheery summer coverup will protect from morning breezes, get you to the beach in style, and add grace to your day and evening wear.
Tiny Inspirations
Posted on August 12 2019

In the first days of August, there is a touch of fall in the air. Just for a moment, one feels a longing for pretty cashmere sweaters and accessories of the more baroque variety. Soon, it will be time to turn to Jane’s Vanity for lingerie and loungewear pieces that suit the mood of autumn. And to match them up with jewelry treasures collected over vacation--tiny inspirations, wrapped in memories of summer’s grand tour.

David Hicks, fabled British designer, said that a beautiful room disappears as one lives in it; one only really sees it the first time one enters. The same might be said of one’s favorite clothing, so pleasing that it mingles with the wearer. Lovely things from Jane’s Vanity help create that relaxing sense of being “just right” in one’s clothes.
Cheers for Sheers
Posted on August 10 2019

Ooh la la! What could be nicer than a gift to yourself of the lightest, prettiest, most luxurious sheer lace? Emphasis on sheer. Yet, not quite bare. Just right after a bath, under a party dress, or off to bed. Jane’s Vanity offers a romantic assortment of these sensual garments. Fall in love with their delicate colors and inviting lace stories.
The Slow Deal
Posted on August 09 2019

Consider the seductive card game. Each hand dealt with devilish precision. It calls to mind a certain way of lingerie dressing: each piece thoughtfully selected from your collection and gracefully laid out. Perhaps today it will be a single item, showcased for effect. Or, this...and this...and this. Call it the “The Slow Deal.” An opportunity to step back, pause, and appreciate the amazing work of designers and artisans who create for Jane’s Vanity.
Sleeve Dog
Posted on August 04 2019

Be in sync with The Sun King in this season’s luxurious sleeves. They are not only handy for small dogs. Sleeves love to communicate. A finger-tip sleeve calls, “Dahhhhling, check out these bracelets!” A deep sleeve whispers, “Come over here, and sit by me.” Jane’s Vanity knows the language of pretty sleeves.

Mystery
Posted on July 27 2019

Mystery is hard to explain. But, we know the feeling. The kiss that ignites sparks. Or, the song that wafts through a velvety night. Or, the magic of a shared silence. Maybe we don’t want an interpretation of mystery. Better to just absorb it, like an ineffable perfume. Or to wear mystery, in romantic garments from Jane’s Vanity.
The Slow Life

Pass me the seed catalog, Darlin’. It is time for an evening at home. Spaghetti for dinner. Later on, some reruns of M.A.S.H and early to bed, wrapped in Jane’s Vanity loungewear. Time to get horizontal. Balance Pride and Prejudice on your head and steer gracefully toward the bedroom. A happy interlude, made more so by lovely things from Jane’s Vanity! Could be habit-forming...
Do You Speak Persimmon?
Posted on July 13 2019

What is that gorgeous color--like a Tahitian sunset or an Aperol Spritz cocktail? Neither scarlet nor orange. Not quite neon, but almost. We pronounce it Persimmon! As inviting as a stroll through a Sicilian outdoor market. And available in abundance at Jane’s Vanity right now. Be drawn into this color of joy.
That Dress
Posted on July 08 2019

Occasionally a fashion image will come along that is so iconic that it alters our idea of how to dress. For example, Ginger Rogers wearing a simple black crepe de chine afternoon dress in a movie dance number with Fred Astaire. The dress, modest at first glance, becomes part of the action as it floats around Rogers’s flashing legs. It reminds us that a dress can spotlight our best features. Jane’s Vanity shows the way.

Wish I Were There

What could compare to dining in Rome? Curling up in one’s Italian PJ’s and reading about dining in Rome. My latest obsession has three requirements: a certain book, luxurious FRS pajamas from Jane’s Vanity, and my cell phone. First, to get comfortable in favorite Italian loungewear from For Restless Sleepers. Their sleepy-chic is so appropriate for research! Read on…
Surprise
Posted on July 02 2019

A touch of the unexpected is one of life’s little pleasures. It might pop up anywhere. Or you could engineer it. Shows you care. Lingerie dressing is a lovely way to add an element of surprise. Look to Jane’s Vanity to help bring playfulness into your world. Get into the mood for fun.
My Eccentricity
Posted on June 30 2019

Forget trying to fit in. Better to strike out on one’s own. And seek reinforcement at the new exhibit Camp: Notes on Fashion at the Met in NYC (runs May 9-September 8, 2019). What is “camp?”* The exhibit’s overview suggests that it is irony, humor, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality, and exaggeration. Sounds like the Met Gala. And my closet. The latter to be my inspiration for a summer of dressing for fun. It’s all in the mix. I know that my beautiful Jane’s Vanity pieces, worn my way, will allow me to be my own fashionable sunny self.
Clubby

This club is just for you. The one you join when you fall in love with wearing fabulous lingerie and loungewear. Is it a secret club? Not exactly. Dues? Just those paid to yourself. Meetings? Every morning. New items are arriving on the JV website. Perhaps you’ve noticed. Here is a peek at the latest favorites:
Studio Pia
Posted on June 27 2019

Behind Studio Pia’s gorgeously provocative lingerie is a real person, Pia Conaghan, who brings environmental consciousness to every part of her business. It is something to celebrate. A nice occasion for all of us to wear our sexiest Studio Pia lingerie from Jane’s Vanity!
Two for Tea
Posted on June 19 2019

The tea gown, a loose garment for swanning around in the afternoon, appeared on the Parisian runways this March. Its length and sweep give it a nostalgic edge that inspires interesting variations. Dressier than a robe, it feels just right for staying in or sashaying out. Thanks to Jane’s Vanity, I own two such gowns: one for cool weather, one for warm. So handy. A necessary luxury.
