Playing With Our Clothes
Jane’s Vanity’s beautiful silks stand on their own. Lustrous and often patterned, they make life simple. And yet, who could resist playing with them? Adornment is a happy means of self-expression. Which version of ourselves would we like to be today?
Coco Chanel said that we should take off one piece of jewelry just before leaving the house. Some respond that she never took her own advice! Think of those ropes of pearls. Anyway, it’s fun to experiment. Our clothes will tell us what to do. I like to include a keepsake, a little blessing from someone I love. Especially if they have good taste!
My latest mood board for adornment is the Greenfinch Midi Dress from Zoelle. Its golden green color, flecked in front with a print of green, blue, and purple, and in back with a complementary check, calls out for pearls. But, perhaps not as expected. Try them down your spine, along the dress’s deep open-V back. F. Scott Fitzgerald’s stylish character Nicole Diver wore her pearls that way in Tender is the NIght, on a beach in Cap d’Antibes. Accent the look with a single dangling fresh-water pearl earring from Gisel B., the “Margaret.”
Another of my signature pieces is the Burgundy Schiap Silk Dress from Vannina Vesperini. With its seductive dark red stretch silk, its removable shoulder pads, and its hip flounces, you might think that it doesn’t need another thing. But, you’d be wrong. Think of it with Karolina Laskoswka’s Cassiopea Burgundy Choker. It would suggest, of course, the Cassiopea Lingerie Set underneath. Just one size left of this long-line beauty. The Choker would also enhance the Brick and Lace Lingerie Set from Freolic of London.
Perhaps a universal accessory would be the Tayla Waist Corset from Hervé by Céline Marie. And how to wear it? Under and over. For a personal reveal, you might wear it with Céline’s Tayla Plunge Lingerie Set. Sure to be a hit. For a daytime accent, try it over Aromatique’s Black SIlk Camisole and low-slung jeans. Your personal accessory could be a long charm necklace with gorgeous autobiographical baubles.
Stand tall in your JV finery, enhanced by the gleam of gold, the cool of silver. Add a buttery leather belt, a strappy pair of sandals. Spike your fingers through your hair and spray on some perfume. Life is good!
