"Always"
Irving Berlin wrote “Always” in 1926, as a wedding gift to his wife, Ellin Mackay. Ellin was a celebrity herself, because she had saved The New Yorker magazine from bankruptcy by writing an article for it titled “Why We Go to Cabarets.” In the equivalent of “going viral” 100 years ago, the piece was in such demand that people lined up to buy the magazine. Ian Frazier provides a recap with “The Cabaret Beat” in The New Yorker’s 90th Anniversary Issue, February 23/March 2, 2015.
JV lingerie is “always” appropriate and goes with everything. Try it yourself, the next time you are summoned to Brussels, or wherever. My current favorites are beaded, because they dress me up when the thermometer climbs, and I must wear the equivalent of a sack. I like Taryn Winters’s Delphine Beaded Lingerie Set in black tulle and lace, with blue and gold beaded appliqué at cups. Also the Camille Roucher Narcisse Embellished Lingerie Set whose black and lace body is stitched with silk flowers, each secured with a tiny burgundy glass bead.
I love the stealth of JV’s pretty lingerie too. Who would guess? Well, never mind. It actually makes life simpler to just possess (and wear) beauty. Saves valuable space in closet and brain. Encourages experimentation too. To keep things in rotation, I am currently cycling among Freolic London’s three matching bra sets in these color combos: Fuchsia and Lemon, Ocean Silk and Lace, and Brick Silk and Lace. Nice with a tight tee shirt, or a floaty chemise. The foam green of the Ocean Silk and Lace Lingerie Set would be beautiful with the Edo Crane Silk Slip from Karma on the Rocks. The Brick Silk and Lace Lingerie Set would be fun under Karma’s light cotton Kobe Aka Robe.
My bathroom looks cute too, carefully hung with JV lingerie that is drying after gentle washing and toweling. It doesn’t take much time to keep things nice. It might even inspire a song.
