One of my favorite books is The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford. I love this book because it deals with the romance of people who have had some experience in life. It isn’t in a hurry and it savors the moment. The beautiful lingerie at Jane’s Vanity complements so well the idea of Mitford’s book. It challenges one to be a Linda. To be joyful. Last winter my sister and I inherited a cache of costume jewelry that was like a snapshot of the 1970s-80s-90s. Months have gone by, and I finally realized that the way to possess beloved old and gaudy jewely is to wear it for fun. It, a perfect body of calm blueness, most people refer to it as a swimming pool. I prefer to refer to It as the blue zen. Best achieved if no one else is swimming in it, particularly no children, unless you've expressly invited them in, and of course your zen will require far more determination to achieve. It could also be the current of life, which would be an excellent reason to always travel with a swimsuit. I always do, and usually more than one. I am prepared to find my zen, pool or no pool.

They are like a chat with a big sister who has better taste and who, mysteriously, grew up in Paris. Although many style books are best forgotten, here are three that made the cut for my permanent library. They are beautiful examples of book craft, so must be owned in print form. This year's visit was no different. Our focus is always on the smaller lines rather than corporate behemoths, which means we tend to see a bit more of what's up-and-coming or ahead of the curve. While there are always brands that buck the trends and go in their own direction or hang tight to stale styles, each brand usually offers their take on at least one of the current obsessions.
