You're The Top!

You think you know your clothes, but sometimes they surprise you. Take a JV top, for instance. Let it free to explore its potential. It might make the news. See these “top” stories.

“Set Breaks Up!” The Reversible Malachite Butterfly Top from Zoelle, intriguingly pleated in floral print chiffon, can, of course, be worn with its matching Wrap Skirt. But. it also has a life of its own. I received this top as a lovely gift. The first day, in need of an extra layer for exercise, I popped it over my leotard and bra top. Presto, I was dressed as if for a glamorous spa. The tunic length and shoulder details provided coverage, while the pleats and patterns added an easy sophistication over simple black leggings. The next day I wore it with the solid navy of Vannina Vespirini’s Ocean Midi skirt. For travel, it will float majestically over the fabulous Ruby Slip Dress from Gilda & Pearl.

“Party Shocker!” Gilda & Pearl’s sheer tulle RSVP Embroidered Top is more than just the party type. With its demure puff sleeves and high neckline, it could be almost shy and retiring. Try it for daytime, just showing beneath a slightly unbuttoned cardie. The black silk ribbon at ruffled throat seems to call for a party kilt!

“She’s the Top!” She’s the lyrical Draped-Back Blouse from D2Line in Navy or Chartreuse. Maybe it's the tiny gold buttons that give this blouse its charm. Or its princess line. Could be the cap sleeves, the draped cowl cape, the wrinkle-free luxury poly fabric. I particularly like the idea of this flawless blouse as a substitute for a formal jacket when stepping into a meeting or taking a business trip.

A Jane’s Vanity top is clever and full of fun. Just like the lyrics from the Cole Porter classic “You’re the Top,” performed here by Cary Grant and Ginny Sims, in the Porter bio-pic Night and Day.
