Whither Knickers?

Emily reminds us that lingerie is all about beauty. She suggests we picture the lingerie salon of an elegant Parisian department store. There, a European woman (or man) would see the artistry of an entire lingerie set and be beguiled by it. The panty style would be secondary.
And, after all, a wardrobe needs variety, to accommodate a certain dress or situation. BTW, Emily notes that, in French lingerie departments, shapewear is given a tiny corner somewhere toward the back!
However, Emily acknowledges that a thong is not the most comfortable for some people, while others prefer it. While it might prevent a visible panty line, many European women don’t care about that either. Or they consider a VPL a bit of a tease.
For JV customers, the preference seems to be away from the thong. Perhaps because we’ve lived it. After the 60s, when underwear was scant if at all, the 70s and 80s brought an exotic nod to Rio’s Ipanema Beach, in the form of a thong. It was daring, and, sometimes, political. These days, it is nice to have a choice: tanga, boy-short, knicker, bikini, brief, or…the many variations on a thong.
Current JV offerings confirm a variety of options. One can hardly resist the stretchy Salon Bralette Set in black from Japanese knitwear company Aromatique. Composed of 100% rib-knit silk and floral lace, it offers a layered bralette with removable lining, and super-comfy matching boy short. Or, try a thong: Aromatique also offers a Black Rib Silk Bodysuit with high-leg, thong back, and snaps at gusset. It is seamless through the body, as light as air. And, to see why a lingerie designer might create a visual balance between bra and panty, check out Seelanii’s Jagoda Lingerie Set in berry purple silk and Chantilly lace. Its longline bra, luscious and ample, is nicely complemented by a Brazilian-style panty below, with its string-effect in front and fully bagged-out silk at the rear. A tanga-style panty offers slightly less coverage. Those from Hervé by Céline Marie are exceptionally comfortable, pretty, and morale-boosting.
Emily and Jane wish you happy hunting for your perfect panty style, for each and every occasion!
