The Monte Cristo Effect

Sometimes nothing else will do but a movie in your jammies. Come along for a special Rx from JV. We call it the Monte Cristo Effect.

Third day of the flu? Time to fight back. Make a clean sweep with fresh bed linens, a soothing bath, and, afterward, the delicious Aphrodite Silk Pajamas and Robe from Temperley London. These lovely loungewear pieces feature a raucous garden print on black background that suits your helpless state. Thus adorned, you can just manage to reach the remote control. Forget everything and let the afternoon go by, as you watch yet another cinematic version of Alexandre Dumas’s The Count of Monte Cristo. There are lots of them out there, all featuring romance, heartbreak, sailing ships, pirates, treasure, Napoleon, sword-fighting, candlelight, and pretty hats and dresses with ribbons. The Monte Cristo effect is magically healing.

That is fortunate, because, now that you’ve bounced back, someone has invited you to an actual movie theater! To see The Count, of course, in a 2024 French version, three hours long. You readily accept and reach for something Emma Harris: the Clara Moss Silk Pajama in dark green silk with its black lace-appliquéd camisole top and trousers with more lace climbing up the leg. It is wearable with the Temperley London Robe, mentioned above, or just the lace-collared Clara Moss Bed Jacket, which doubles nicely as an outdoor wrap. You’re ready for The Monte Cristo Effect of hand-holding in the dark and reservations at a French restaurant later on.

OK, time to actually read Dumas’s classic tale. Take yourself off to the library in Christine Vancouver’s Fabergé Moss Silk Top and matching Velvet Pant with its devoré floral designs. These pieces would be nice for a cruise as well, to some enchanted island. Take along the book, and the Fabergé Moss Velvet Robe to wear as a duster.

A storybook Jane’s Vanity pajama collection is epic for travel. As you rub elbows onboard your ocean liner, you might create a certain effect yourself, on The Three Musketeers!
