On The Rocks

Cheers to Jane and Emily for their discovery of the wonderful design house Karma on the Rocks. East meets west in the company’s mellow mix of softest loungewear in exotic patterns. A new holiday collection of silk and velvet has just arrived at JV. Let’s get acquainted with this woman-owned, artisanal, and sustainable new refreshment.

In 2021, life-long friends Mona and Dania created Karma on the Rocks with their combined knowledge of design and of the garment business. They each grew up in family textile enterprises–first in Syria, then the UK, Japan, and Lebanon. Later they worked in western capitals. Now Mona’s factory in India makes the garments that are designed by Dania, who often draws upon the aesthetics of her Japanese background. Their goal is not only to create sensuous garments for all-day wear, but also to pay fair wages, support artisans, empower women workers, and preserve a unique cultural heritage. All while maintaining a clean environment and zero waste.

For their holiday collection, they’ve envisioned a link to the fan-shaped Gingko leaf, a golden and sacred symbol in many cultures. Notice the gingko-patterned embroidery on the shawl collar, cuffs, and hem of the show-stopping velvet coverups: the statuesque Nikko Silk Velvet Gold Long Robe and the Nikko Silk Velvet Burgundy Short Robe. Or choose a lighter silk robe. The Kobe Kazari Gold Long Silk Robe features a golden ginkgo motif on silver grey silk charmeuse. The Kobo Kazari Aqua Long Silk Robe is crafted in a gingko print on burgundy red silk charmeuse. Wide bands of contrasting geometric print on both of these choices give added depth and interest. Mix the robes with the corresponding Tokyo Kazari Aqua Pajama or the Isa Kazari Gold Pajama. What  stunning gifts these exotic pieces will make!

A JV Holiday toast to a beautiful friendship with Karma on the Rocks!
